BSCIC to set up 3 more industrial parks in Chattogram

The Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) has decided to set up three more industrial parks in Chattogram.
“The industrial parks will be established to woo both domestic and foreign investments. Salt industry and local women entrepreneurs will have separate parks,” said the BSCIC in a stamen on Wednesday.
The new parks will generate employment opportunities for about 5 lakh people, it said.
The Salt Industry Park and Women Entrepreneur Industrial Park will be built on 100 acres of land at Charandwip on the bank of Karnafuli River in Boalkhali Upazila, and Multi-sector Industrial Park on 500 acres of land in Patiya.
At present, Chattogram has five industrial parks---BSCIC Industrial City Fauzdarhat, BSCIC Industrial City Sholashahar, BSCIC Industrial City Kalurghat, BSCIC Industrial City Patia, and BSCIC Industrial City Mirsarai. Another industrial park is under construction on a 35-acre land at Raozan.
The total area of the five existing industrial parks in Chattogram is about 150.41 acres with 195 manufacturing-industrial units. Out of which, 75 units are export-oriented. About 1.5 lakh men and women are working in the parks.
The five BSCIC industrial cities produce light engineering equipment, readymade garments, ceramic and non-metallic products, chemical and allied products, packaging, timber and forestry, food and food products, leather, rubber, and rubber products.
