Since men are responsible for the violence against women in most of the cases, they have to come forward to end such practices.

Speakers made the remarks at a discussion on the “Violence against women – It’s a men’s issue”, organised by ActionAid Bangladesh in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday, reads a press release.

The discussion started after presentation of a documentary based on a Rohingya woman, who was a victim of domestic violence.

Speaking at the event, lawyer Saki A Kawsar said violence is the tool of suppression against women in the society and men are responsible behind this.

Kabir, country director of the ActionAid Bangladesh, said there is no scope for blaming all the men in general behind the violence against women.

To prevent the violence against women and also to ensure equal status of both men and women, all including men have to work together, she told the discussion.

Mohammad Shamsuzzoha, additional commissioner for refugee repatriation and relief, also spoke on the occasion.

The discussion was organised as part of the “International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women”, observed on 25 November.
