Covid-19 death toll crosses 7,000 in Bangladesh

Dhaka (Dec 12, 2020): The death toll from coronavirus in Bangladesh reached 7,020 with the fresh 34 more death cases counted across the country in the last 24 hours ending 8:00am on Saturday.

At the same time, around 1,329 new cases were found positive, pushing the total infection to 4, 89,178, said a press statement of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

A total of 12,630 samples were tested at different government authorized laboratories in the country and the current infection rate stood at 10.52 percent, according to the press statement.

In the same period, around 3,185 people were discharged from different hospitals across the country after their recovery and the total number of recovery now rose to 4, 17, 503, the DGHS said.

The recovery rate now stands at 85.35 percent while the death rate at 1.44 percent, according to the tally of the DGHS.

After the outbreak of the virus at Hunan province of China, Bangladesh first reported the infection case on March 8 and death case just after its 10 days.
