Covid-19 claims 17 lives, lowest in last 5 weeks

The deadly novel coronavirus claimed 17 more lives and infected 1, 318 people afresh at different parts of the country including capital Dhaka in the last 24 hours ending 8:00am on Tuesday.
The total death toll, with the updated data, rose to 7,329 while the number of infection stood at 5, 0, 3,501, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said it in a press release this afternoon.
Around 15,145 samples were tested at 161 government authorised laboratories across the country in the last 24 hours and 1,318 samples were found positive, the press release said.
Besides, around 2, 235 people were released from different hospitals in the same time after their recoveries from the infection, pushing the total number of recovery to 4, 41,929, said the press release.
According to the statistics, the recovery rate stands at 87.77 percent, infection rate 8.70 percent and death rate at 1.46 percent.
The first case of coronavirus was detected in Bangladesh on March 8 and the first death from the disease was recorded after 10 days of the same month.

Since its outbreak in China in December last year, Covid-19 took around 17, 10,967 lives and infected 7, 77, 93,186 people in different countries across the globe, according to worldometers.
