BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has blamed the ruling quarter for its attempt to hang on to power forcibly by misleading people in the name of development.
“The ruling quarter is branding the government as a role model for development and misleading people deliberately with an aim to cling to power forcibly,” Fakhrul said.
The BNP leader came up with the remarks while addressing a press conference at party Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office in Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon.
Referring to the reports published in different newspapers today over the human development index, he said Bangladesh secured fifth place among the eight south Asian countries and it is even below Bhutan.
Such falsehood of the government is a clear indication of its evil attempt to hang on to power forcibly, the BNP leader noted.
The government has destroyed the spirit of the country’s independence and materialized corruption in the economic sector, he alleged.
The government has also made the country’s parliament dysfunctional, destroying the electoral system and in this context, the country’s renowned citizens are apprehending that no free and fair election is possible to be held under the supervision of the current Election Commission, he said.
Fakhrul said his party has undertaken elaborate programmes to mark the golden jubilee of independence throughout the year in 2021 with only a goal to restore the spirit of the Liberation War and democracy.
