Covid-19: 24 more die, 1,049 infected in last 24hrs

Bangladesh recorded 24 more deaths and 1,049 fresh cases of novel coronavirus from different parts of the country including capital Dhaka in the last 24 hours ending 8:00am on Sunday.
With the updated data, the death toll from the virus rose to 7,452 while the number of infection increased to 5, 09,148, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) unveiled the figure in a press release this afternoon.
Around 12,650 samples were tested at 167 government authorised laboratories across the country in the last 24 hours and 1,049 samples were found positive for the virus, the press release said.
In the same period, a total of 1,473 people were declared free from Covid-19 infections, taking the total number of recovery to 4, 51,961, the press release said.
According to the current statistics, the infection rate stands at 16.05 percent, recovery rate at 88.77 percent and death rate stands at 1.46 percent in the same period.
Since its outbreak in China, the first coronavirus case was detected in Bangladesh on March 8 and the first death case of virus recorded on March 18.
