Covid-19 claims 22 more lives, infects 1,235 in last 24hrs

The deadly novel coronavirus claimed 22 more lives and infected 1,235 people anew at different parts of the country including capital Dhaka in the last 24 hours ending 8:00am on Wednesday.

With the latest data, the total number of deaths rose to 7,531 while the total number of cases stood at 5, 12,496, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) unveiled the data in the press release this afternoon.

In the last 24 hours, as many as 15,229 samples were tested at different government authorised laboratories across the country and 1,235 cases were found positive for the virus, the press release said.

In the same period, some 1,507 patients who were undergoing treatment either at homes or at hospitals, were declared free from the virus, taking the total number of recovery to 4, 56,070, the DGHS said.

According to the updated information, the infection rate of the virus stands at 8.11 percent, recovery rate at 88.99 percent and death rate at 1.47 percent.

Since the outbreak of the virus in China, Bangladesh detected the first case on March 8 and recorded the first death case on March 18.

Besides, according to the worldometers, some 17, 99, 077 people have so far met their tragic end of their lives while 8, 24, 21, 447 people have been infected by the virus across the world.
