Case against Nixon Chy: Section 144 imposed in Faridpur Sadar Upazila

The local administration has imposed section 144 within one kilometer area of Faridpur Sadar Upazila following a political programme called by Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury, known as Nixon Chowdhury, lawmaker from Faridpur-4 and his rival group.

The section 144 will remain in force for the next 24 hours ending 9:00am tomorrow, according to the local administration.

Nixon Chowdhury and his rival group announced political programmes on the premises of the upazila headquarter and in front of the upazila health complex scheduled to be held on a similar time.

Following announcement of the programmes, the local administration has been forced to impose the section 144 in and around area to avert any untoward incident.

Nixon Chowdhury was as an independent candidate elected lawmaker from the parliamentary constituency in 2014 and 2018 when Kazi Zafarullah, a presidium member of Awami League, was his nearest constant.

And from then, the local leaders and workers have split into two groups.

The Election Commission on October 15 filed a case against Nixon Chowdhury, for his alleged role in violating the electoral code of conduct.

Faridpur’s Senior Election Officer Nawabul Islam filed the case with Charbhadrasan Police Station in line with the directives of the Election Commission, according to police.

The EC filed the case as the local lawmaker, during Charbhadrasan upazila election on October 10, allegedly hurled abuse at the Faridpur deputy commissioner and other local admin officials during phone conversations with them.

Later, at a press conference at the National Press Club in Dhaka, Nixon Chowdhury sought legal action against Faridpur Deputy Commissioner Atul Sarkar, claiming that the DC acted in favour of BNP candidate KM Obaidul Bari in the recently held election for the chairman post of Charbhadrasan upazila.

The MP, however, claimed that his phone conversations were massively edited.
