BNP should return to positive politics in New Year: Quader

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Saturday called upon BNP to return to the right path of politics in the New Year for the interest of the country’s overall peace, progress and stability.

“BNP’s political strategies are not getting momentum and thus it should come to the trend of positive politics in the New Year for the interest of the country and its people,” Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, came up with the call this noon.

While addressing a programme of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) virtually from his official residence on the parliament complex premise, Quader said the government has passed around 12 years, hearing BNP’s threat of waging mass upsurge to unseat the current government.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at a programme recently warned of waging a mass upsurge in the country in the New Year to topple the government from power.

“There is no issue of waging mass upsurge in the country. People now lough at BNP for such threats,” Quader said hinting about his counterpart Fakhrul’s threat.

About his party’s mission and vision in the New Year, Quader said Awami League will be emerged as an organised and a smarter political organisation under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“Intra-party discipline will be more strengthened in the New Year. We will remain watchful so that controversial people cannot intrude into the party politics,” the Awami League Leader said.

Alongside the party, his government will do whatever necessary in establishing discipline on the roads and highways across the country, he said.

He also asked concerned BRTA officials to put an end to the domination of brokers in the sector and ordered them to cut their dishonest ties with the agents for the betterment of the BRTA’s services.

“We will have to get rid of the prevailing situation and to stop plying of three-wheeler on the highways,” the minister said directing the concerned BRTA officials to visit the three-wheeler manufacturing factories in the country.

About the government imposed health guideline in the public transport, he said a passenger against a seat policy must be obeyed to contain the spread of coronavirus. Otherwise, the concerned authority will take action, he added.
