Anti-tobacco lobby meets parliament whip to discuss law reforms

Representatives of the Anti Tobacco Media Alliance (ATMA) and Knowledge for Progress (PROGGA) have met with the Whip of the National Parliament Iqbalur Rahim to discuss the necessity of reforming tobacco control laws. 
 
The meeting took place at the whip’s office on Sunday, according to a press release from PROGGA. 

During the meeting, the representatives placed some proposals and asked the assistance of the whip in reforming the tobacco control laws to achieve the goal of making the country tobacco-free by the year 2040, which was set by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. 

The representatives emphasised on ensuring a smoke-free environment in public transport and restaurants; stopping the showcasing of tobacco-based products in shops; banning CSR initiatives taken by tobacco companies; banning sell of individual cigarette sticks; and banning the import of e-cigarettes and similar tobacco-based products
