Russell’s tender mind was full of humanity: tutor

Gitali Dasgupta, a teacher of Shaheed Sheikh Russell, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, said little Russell had a wonderful combination of talent and thought while his young fresh heart was full of humanity.

She praised a lot her student’s intelligence and tender heart full of kindness and compassion while remembering the past memories with Sheikh Russell in a webinar, reports BSS.

The online discussion was organized by the web team of Bangladesh Awami League on the occasion of Sheikh Russell’s 56th birth anniversary on Saturday night, said a press release here.

Gitali Dasgupta reminisced the way she had to execute to make Sheikh Russell be interested in math.

While participating in the webinar discussion, Selina Hossain, former chairman of Shishu Academy, said, “I see him as a symbolic child of the dream of independence.”

“He had a sense of patriotism from the young age. Absolutely he got it from the family,” the release quoted Hossain as saying.

Prominent actor and convener of Sampriti Bangladesh Piyush Bandyopadhyay said the miscreants killed him, even they didn’t let him go to his mother before killing, adding “they (miscreants) knew he (Russell) was bearing the blood of Bangabandhu and Bangamata, and so they killed him with a plan.”

Awami League Women’s Affairs Secretary Meher Afroz Chumki said, “We don’t know what baby Russell could have done after he grew up. But the family, he came from, tells us that he would have grown up as a talented and humane man.”

Former pro-vice chancellor (VC) Professor of Dhaka University Dr. Nasreen Ahmed said, “The day Sheikh Russell was born, I felt my younger brother was born.”

“What a horrible day it was! I heard the sound of gunshots…I wish his soul rest in eternal peace,” the release quoted Ahmed as saying.

But through this cruel death, Russell seems to have become victorious, she added.

Sheikh Russell was born on this day in 1964 in the historical 32 no. residence of Dhanmondi.

On August 15, 1975, Russell, a fourth-grade student of University Laboratory School, was killed by a brutal bullet fired by a traitorous barbaric assassin.
