Former Deputy Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Colonel (retd) Shawkat Ali
Former Deputy Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Colonel (retd) Shawkat Ali passed away during undergoing treatment at Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka today.
He was 83.
He breathed his last early today, family sources confirmed the matter.
The former deputy speaker was admitted to the CMH on October 29 as he was suffering from several old-aged complications, including kidney and heart-related problems.
As his condition deteriorated, he was kept on life support at the hospital on November 5.
Shawkat Ali was one of the accused in the Agartala Conspiracy Case filed during the Ayub regime in Pakistan period.
He was elected MP from Shariatpur-2 constituency six times.
He is the founding chairman of Muktijoddha Sanghati Parishad and the chief advisor of 71 Foundation.
He left behind a son and a daughter and host of relatives to morn his death.
The body of Shawkat will be kept at the central Shaheed Minar around 3:30pm where people from all of walks of life will pay their last respect to him.
The namaz-e-janaza of Shawakat Ali will be held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque after Maghrib prayer.
Later, his body will be taken to Naria in Shariatpur district by a helicopter around 10:00am tomorrow where he will be buried at his family graveyard following a namaz-e-janaza.
