Bangladesh reported 21 new dengue cases until early Sunday, amid the Covid-19 outbreak, taking the total number to 84.
Nineteen people were hospitalized with dengue fever at that time in Dhaka city alone and two outside it, the Directorate General of Health said.
Also, the health authority confirmed 1,010 dengue cases since January and 920 patients have recovered.
Dengue has continued to affect several countries in 2020 with a high number of cases reported from Bangladesh, Malaysia, Philippines, and Vietnam in Asia, says the World Health Organization.
According to official figures, 101,354 dengue cases and 179 deaths were recorded in Bangladesh last year.
Meanwhile, dengue fever was first reported in Bangladesh in 2000 and claimed 93 lives. In three years, the fatality number almost fell to zero.
However, the mosquito-borne viral infection struck again in 2018, killing 26, and affecting 10,148.
Dhaka North City Corporation started an anti-mosquito campaign on November 2 to keep the number of dengue cases low this year.
