Average 108 children, women raped a month since January

Stop rape
On an average around 108 women and children were raped every month from January to September this year, said a study report.
Nari Nirapotta Jote, a platform that works for women’s safety and Amrai Pari Paribarik Nirjaton Protirodh Jote, jointly revealed the facts at a press conference held at the National Press Club in Dhaka on Tuesday.
Around 975 women and children were raped in nine months from January to September, the alliance claimed in the report prepared through collecting news reports from 11 national daily newspapers.
From the press conference, the alliance placed nine-point demands seeking action from the authorities concerned preventing the menace of the rape incident in the country.
The activists of the platforms will form human chain at 40 districts across the country simultaneously and will place memorandum to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through the local administrations.
About the nine-point demand, Jinat Ara Haque, executive coordinator of We Can Alliance to End Violence against Women, said the children and women repression case will have to be solved by 180 days.
Overall security will have to be ensured for the victims and their family members and at the same time, adequate compensation will have to be given them.
Apart from, a zero tolerance policy against the spate of the children and women repression will have to be incorporated to stop the recurrence of such incident in the society, she said.
