Bangladesh reports 1908 new cases, 36 deaths from Covid-19

Bangladesh today announced 1,908 fresh coronavirus cases and 36 deaths from the virus in the last 24 hours until Saturday morning.

With the 1,908 fresh cases, the total number of infection reached 4, 60,619 while the death toll from the virus rose to 6,580, according to a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Until the Saturday morning, around 14,012 samples tests were carried out and 13.62 percent of the patients found positive, it said.

Among the total 36, 28 men and 8 female met their tragic end of lives during undergoing treatment at different hospital across the country, the DGHS added in the press release.

A total of 2,209 patients recovered from the disease during the same time and the total number of the recovery rose to 3, 75,885 the press release said.

Of the total 36, 30 patients died during undergoing treatment at different hospitals in Dhaka, three in Khulna while one each in Chattogram, Barishal and Rangpur.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8. The infection number hit the 300,000-mark on August 26.

The first death was reported on March 18 and the death toll exceeded 6,000 on November 4.

In global situation

As the whole world is grappling with the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases rose to 61,585,651 on Saturday, according to the data compiled by John Hopkins University (JHU).

Besides, 1,441, 875 people have died so far from the virus infection, the data showed.

Coronavirus is affecting 191 countries and territories around the world since the first cases were reported in China in December last year.

The US has reported 13,086,367 cases since the start of the pandemic while the death toll from the virus jumped to 264,842 as of Saturday.
