The government on Monday hinted that it would soon go tough on those who refuse to wear masks in public places, in a bid to stem the spread of coronavirus.
For now, the people who are venturing outside without masks will only be fined. The government will observe the situation in the next 7-10 days.
After that, if anybody is found without masks might be sent to jail, said Cabinet Division Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam.
Anwarul Islam came up with the announcement while addressing a press conference after the regular cabinet meeting held with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair. Sheikh Hasina attended meeting virtually from her official residence Gono Bhaban.
During the meeting, the prime minister instructed the government departments concerned to take measures in stopping illegal sand lifting.
