The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has dispersed anti-sculpture protestors who brought out a procession after the Jumma prayers on Friday.

The protesters tried to block the road at around 2pm in front of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Paltan after taking part in the Jumma prayers, according to eye-witnesses.

Our photographer present at the scene quoted eye witnesses as saying that the protestors were followers of the Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh Joint Secretary General Mamunul Haque. Bystanders claimed they were protesting against the government’s plan to build a sculpture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Police allegedly charged batons and dispersed the crowd after the protestors attacked them.
