The postal department on Saturday released a commemorative stamp to mark the naming of East Pakistan as Bangladesh in 1969.
Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar unveiled the commemorative stamp worth Tk10 during a programme organised by his ministry in Dhaka.
A commemorative envelope worth Tk10 and a data card worth Tk5 along with a special seal were also released to mark the occasion.
At a discussion on the 6th death anniversary of Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy on December 5, 1969, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared that the name of East Pakistan would be Bangladesh.
In a statement, the minister said Bangabandhu had announced the name of Bangladesh even two years before its independence on December 16, 1971.
The stamps and envelopes are on sale at the Philatelic Bureau of Dhaka GPO from today.
Later, all the main post offices and GPOs across the country will be selling these.
