Dhaka (Dec 6, 2020): Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Sunday said the law enforcement agencies arrested four people in connection with vandalism of a sculpture of Bangabandhu in Kushtia.

“We have already arrested four people in this connection,” he told journalists at his secretariat office here, reports BSS.

Two persons were arrested first and as per the information gleaned from them, police arrested two others, the minister said, adding, “Our law enforcement agencies have been alert.”

He said an investigation is underway into the vandalism of a sculpture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Kushtia.

“Case will be filed against those who will be found guilty in the investigation. None will be spared,” Kamal said.

Replying to a question, the minister said, “The government will not allow any kind of anarchy in the country.”

Citing examples of different countries, he said that in the age of Muslim civilization, sculptures of many Muslim scholars like Alberuni and Ibn Battuta were created in different places.

“None is vandalizing those. We want to say sculpture does not mean worship; sculpture means holding his memories and cherishing his contributions to the country, to the nation,” he said.

“We have seen sculptures in many Islamic countries. Saudi Arabian King’s picture is on currency, Qaed-e Azam’s picture and Indonesian head of state’s picture on their currencies. We are carrying those in our pockets,” Kamal added.
