Dhaka (Dec 7, 2020): A Dhaka court today ordered Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the sedition charge brought against Hefajat-e-Islam Ameer Junayed Babunagari and two others for their derogatory remarks over sculpture of Bangabandhu.

Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court Judge Sotyabrata Sikder passed the order after ending a hearing on the case this afternoon.

Earlier in the day, a sedition case was filed against Hefajat-e-Islam Ameer Junayed Babunagari, its Joint Secretary General Md Mamunul Haque and Islami Andolan Bangladesh Senior Naib-e-Ameer Syed Faizul Karim for their recent remarks over sculpture of Bangabandhu.

Muktijuddho Moncho's Central Committee President Aminul Islam Bulbul lodged the case with Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court this noon.

In the case statement, the plaintiff said the accused during a programme in Dholaipar area of Dhaka and Hathazari Madrasa delivered derogatory remarks on sculpture of Bangabandhu on November 13 and 27.

Their remarks destroyed the country’s peace and stability which is tantamount to sedition, Bulbul said in his petition.

While addressing a rally in Dhaka on November 13, Mamunul called upon the authority concerned to stop setting up sculpture of Bangabandhu and threatened to go for a tough programme if the call is ignored, said in the case statement.

On the same day, Syed Faizul Karim also came up with a similar call in a rally at Dholaipar and vowed to throw the sculpture to Buriganga River.

Besides, Babunagari while addressing a programme in Hathazari also asked government to stay aside from setting up sculpture of Bangabandhu, otherwise they will go for a Shapla Chattar like demonstration.

Following the remarks, protest erupted across the country while the religion-based political parties and the government have crossed their swords to face each other on the streets.

the prevailing situation, a group of miscreants vandalised some parts of under construction sculpture of Bangabandhu in Kushitia town on last Friday midnight.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Assaduzzaman Khan Kamal yesterday claimed that the law enforces have already detained four people in connection with the vandalism of the sculpture.
