Covid-19 deaths, infections remain same in last 2 weeks

Dhaka (Dec 7, 2020): While Covid-19 infections and deaths have been rising in the USA, Europe and many other countries as winter comes in, Bangladesh looks different here.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), a total of 230 people died from Covid-19 in the past week (Dec 1-7), up from just 228 a week ago.

The data also shows a total of 14, 811 people found Covid-19 infected in the last week, down from 15, 172 in the previous week.

This weekly figure indicates that the death and infection rates from the coronavirus remains almost the same in the last two weeks in Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh recorded 36 more deaths and 2,198 new cases from coronavirus at different parts of the country including capital Dhaka in the last 24 hours ending 8:00am on Monday.

With the latest figure, the death tally from the deadly virus reached 6,874 while the infection score stood at 4, 79,743, said a press statement of the DGHS.

In the last 24 hours, around 14,369 samples were tested at different government authorised laboratories and 2, 198 people of them found positive for the Covid-19, the statement said.

At the same time, a total of 2,663 patients who were undergoing treatment at different hospitals, were discharged after their recoveries from the infection.

According to the statistics, the latest infection rate reached 15.30 percent while the recovery rate rose to 83 percent.

In Bangladesh, the first coronavirus case was detected on March 8 and the first death case was recorded just after 10 days of the same month.
