5 persons killed in Tangail road accident

Dhaka (Dec 8, 2020): At least 5 persons were killed and two others injured critically in a head-on collision between a truck and a pick-up van on a bypass road of Tangail town this morning.
A Dhaka-bound vegetable-laden truck from Northbengal collided head-on with an oncoming pickup van in Gharinda area early this morning, leaving four people who were on the pickup van dead on the spot, said an official of Tangail Fire Service and Civil Defence.
Three people also sustained serious injuries in the accident, the official said.
Local rushed the three injured people to Tangail General Hospital where attending physician declared one of them dead, he added.
Further detail including identities of the deceased could not be known immediately, the official added.
Road accidents are quite common in Bangladesh as in the first half of this year, at least 2,329 people were killed and 4,361 others injured in 2,159 road accidents across the country, according to a report.
In the last five years, road accidents killed 37,170 people in the country and injured 82,758 people, according to a report of Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity.
