Dhaka (Dec 8, 2020): A Kushtia court on Tuesday placed four accused on remand in connection with a case filed for vandalising under construction sculpture of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Among the four, two Madrasa students –Abu Bakkar alias Muthun, 19, and Sabuj Islam alias Nahid, 20, on five-day remand while two teachers—Al Amin, 27, and Yusuf Ali, 26, on four-day remand each.

Kushtia Chief Judicial Magistrate Anamul Haque passed the order after Inspector Nishikanta Das, of Kushtia Model Police Station, produced them before the court with seeking 10 days for the two students and seven days for the two teachers remand player.

After ending hearing on the charge, the court granted five days for the two students while four days for the two teachers remand.

Earlier, police took the accused at the court amid huge security measures around 11:00am.

Miscreants vandalised the under construction mural of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Panch Rastha intersection of the district town last Friday night.

Following CCTV footages, law enforcers detained two youths first and later, detained two teachers of a local Madrasa.

Yesterday, a sedition case was filed against Hefajat-e-Islam Ameer Junayed Babunagari, its Joint Secretary General Md Mamunul Haque and Islami Andolan Bangladesh Senior Naib-e-Ameer Syed Faizul Karim for their recent remarks over sculpture of Bangabandhu.

Following the case, a Dhaka court ordered Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the sedition charge brought against Hefajat-e-Islam Ameer Junayed Babunagari and two others for their derogatory remarks over sculpture of Bangabandhu.

Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court Judge Sotyabrata Sikder passed the order after ending a hearing on the case.

Muktijuddho Moncho's Central Committee President Aminul Islam Bulbul lodged the case with Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court.

In the case statement, the plaintiff said the accused during a programme in Dholaipar area of Dhaka and Hathazari Madrasa delivered derogatory remarks on sculpture of Bangabandhu on November 13 and 27.
