Dhaka (Dec 8, 2020): Hundreds of shop owners locked into sporadic clash with law enforces in a bid to halt the authority’s move to evict illegally set up shops at Fulbaria Super Market-2 in Dhaka this afternoon.

Dhaka South City Corporation’s (DSCC) was all set to carry out the eviction drive around 11:00am but failed in the face of a huge protest of the shop owners in the area.

According to the DSCC, there are 911 shops set up in the market violating the officially approved design and some of shops were set up occupying walkway, elevator and toilet spaces.

In a bid to evict the illegal shops, the DSCC equipped with its demolition equipment and members of law enforcement agencies reached the spot. Sensing presence of the DSCC eviction team, the shop owners and their employees took to the streets and staged a demonstration.

At one point, the agitated shop owners started pelting brick chips at the law enforcers and within a moment the entire area turned into a violent zone.

Police fired blank shots in order to bring the situation under control and to disperse the agitators but the sporadic clash took places at the moment.

Later, police forced to lob tear gas and took the situation under control.

Tense situation was prevailing in and around the area until the report was filed around 3:30pm.
