Covid-19 claims 32 lives, infects 2,202 in Bangladesh

Dhaka (Dec 8, 2020): The deadly virus Covid-19 claimed more 32 lives and infected 2, 202 people at different parts across the country including capital Dhaka in the last 24 hours ending 8:00am on Tuesday.

The total death toll, with the latest figure, rose to 6,906 while the number of infection reached 4, 81, 945, said a press statement of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) today.

During the time, around 17,084 samples were tested at different government authorised laboratories across the country and 12.89 percent of cases found positive for Covid-19, the press statement said.

The DGHS said around 2571 patients were discharged from different hospitals after their recovery from the disease and with the update tally, around 40, 1,194 so far recovered from the disease.

The recovery rate now stands at 83.24 percent, the DGHS said in the statement.

The DGHS, a total of 230 people died from Covid-19 in the past week (Dec 1-7), up from just 228 a week ago.

The data also shows a total of 14, 811 people found Covid-19 infected in the last week, down from 15, 172 in the previous week.

This weekly figure indicates that the death and infection rates from the coronavirus remains almost the same in the last two weeks in Bangladesh.

In Bangladesh, the first coronavirus case was detected on March 8 and the first death case was recorded just after 10 days of the same month.
