The government has taken a decision of scrapping the Primary Education Completion, Junior School Certificate and equivalent examinations under new education policies to be effective from 2023.

Education Minister Dipu Moni came up with the announcement while unveiling the framework of National Educational Curriculum (NEC) in a press conference held at her ministerial office in Dhaka, this noon.

The groups, like humanities, science and commerce, in class nine and class ten are going to be abolished in a bid to have an integrated curriculum in the education system, she said.

A total of ten books have been made mandatory for all students of class nine and ten while they all have to read optional subjects according to their merits and choices, Dipu Moni said.

Moreover, there will be no annual examinations for first graders through third graders and changes will be brought in the text books and educational activities, she said.

English medium primary, secondary and higher secondary educational institutes will have to follow the government instructions.

The SSC and HSC examination results may be published on the basis of class assessments, the minister pointed out.
