The Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) will vaccinate more than 6.5 lakh children to protect them from measles and rubella.

Beginning on December 12, the Measles-Rubella (MR) Vaccination Campaign will continue till January 24.

A total of 6,52,574 children, age between nine months and under 10 years, will be vaccinated in all 41 wards of the city during this period, said Chief Health Officer of CCC Selim Akhter Chowdhury in a press conference today.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, hygiene rules must be followed strictly at the vaccination centres, he added.

Measles is usually spread by coughing and sneezing among those who come in contact with an infected patient.

On the other hand, the rubella virus mainly enters the healthy body through the respiratory tract with the help of air and causes symptoms.

If a pregnant mother is infected with the rubella virus three months into pregnancy, the virus can be transmitted from the mother to the child in 90 percent of cases.

CCC will open control rooms (031-634564, 031-617555) during the campaign, Selim told the press conference.
