1st shipment of Covid-19 vaccine to be arrived in early Jan: Health minister

Dhaka (Dec 10, 2020): Health Minister Jahid Maleque today said that the first shipment of coronavirus vaccine prepared by Serum Institute in India is expected to arrive in Bangladesh in early January of 2021.
“Many countries will face problems in getting the vaccine without agreement and thus, we have earlier signed a deal with Serum Institute,” Maleque told media men while inaugurating measles and rebella immunization campaign in Dhaka this noon.
Due to the time befitting and pragmatic decision of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh is going to get the vaccine as quickly as possible, the minister said.
Alongside this, the World Health Organisation will provide some vaccines and the government will get those timely, he said and added around 27 percent people will be vaccinated gradually.
On November 5, the government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Serum Institute of India Pvt Limited and Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd (BPL) to get three crore dodges of SARS-Cov-2 AZD 1222 (Oxford/Astrazeneca Vaccine).
Additional secretary to Health Service Division Mostafa Kamal and representatives from Serum Institute and Beximco Pharmaceuticals Limited of Bangladesh signed the MoU at the Health Ministry in presence of Health Minister Zahid Maleque.
As per the MoU, Serum institute will provide SARS-Cov-2 AZD 1222 (Oxford/Astrazeneca Vaccine) to Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd (BPL).
