Chief of Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed formally inaugurated the newly constructed Cantonment Board Jam-e Mosque (Allahu Masjid) at Dhaka Cantonment on Friday.

He attended the event as the chief guest, according to a press release by the Inter Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR).

The mosque, originally built on May 23, 1974 could only house approximately 900 worshipers at a time. On Fridays, the worshippers had to offer prayers on the road adjacent to the mosque.

Considering both present and future needs, Army Chief General Aziz Ahmed took the initiative to rebuild the mosque.

Following this, on March 10, 2019, he laid the foundation stone for the reconstruction of the mosque.

The rebuilt mosque has an area of about 32,000 square feet and a capacity for more than 3,000 worshippers.

After the inauguration, the Chief of Army Staff thanked all those involved in the reconstruction of the mosque.

Organised under the overall management of the Headquarters Logistics Area, the inaugural ceremony was attended by senior army officers, officers of various other ranks and civilians of the area.
