The construction work in the second tunnel of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel has begun at the bottom of Karnaphuli River.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader inaugurated the project work through a videoconference on Saturday.
The construction work in the second tube—12 meters away from the first tube on the Chattogram port side—started from the Anowara side. The tunnel will create a connection between the Chattogram port area and Anowara Upazila.
Engineer Harunur Rashid, the project director of the tunnel, was present at the event.
The project is being constructed at a cost of about Tk 10,000 crore. It has 3.4 kilometres long main tunnel, 5.35 kilometers connecting road and 727 meters footbridge.
