Sinha murder case: Charges pressed against 15 including ex-OC Pradeep

Dhaka( Dec 13, 2020): Law enforcing agency has pressed charge against 15 accused including Pradeep Kumar Das, then officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, in connection with Maj (retd) Sinha Rashed Khan killing case.
Rapid Action Battalion submitted the charge sheet to Senior Judicial Magistrate Court-4 in Cox’s Bazar this morning showing Pradeep Kumar Das as the mastermind of the killing incident. After a brief hearing, Judge Tamanna Farah, of the court, accepted the chargesheet, reports our correspondent.
In the charge sheet, Senior ASP Mohammad Khairul Islam, investigation officer (IO) of the case, claimed to have found evidence of having hands of a total of 15 people including then OC Pradeep Kumar and Liakat Ali, an inspector of the same police station behind the killing incident.
A total of 14 accused have so far been arrested in this connection and all are now behind bars while Sagar Deb, an assistant sub-inspector of Teknaf Police Station is still at large.
After submitting the chargesheet, IO Khairul Islam, told reports that the chargesheet was submitted based on evidence found through conducting investigation into the case filed by Sinha’s sister Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous.
Besides, three cases under narcotic acts and obstructing government activity were lodged against Sinha and his associates with Teknaf Police Station, but no evidence was fund during the investigation, the IO said.
Sinha was shot dead at an APBN check point on Cox's Bazar-Teknaf marine drive in Baharchara area on July 31.
Later, police detained Sahedul Islam Sifat, one of Sinha’s associates and then picked his rest two associates -- Shipra Debnath and Tahsin Rifat Nur – up from Sinha’s Nilima Resort.
Police sent Shipra and Sifat to jail showing them arrested while released Nur and later, Shipra and Sifat got bail in the narcotic case filed against them by police following Sinha’s killing.
A total of four cases were filed in connection with Sinha’s killing and of the cases, police filed three cases and Sinha’s sister filed another one.
