Dhaka (Dec 15, 2020): Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Tuesday said that discussion with Islamic scholars is going on to put an end to the prevailing feud on setting up Bangabandhu’s sculpture.
“They [Islamic scholars] placed a five-point proposal during the discussion. We are discussing the proposals and it will continue until a fruitful result comes in this regard,” the minister told reporters at his secretariat office in Dhaka this afternoon.
A 12-member delegation of Islamic scholars held a meeting with the home minister at his official residence in Dhanmondi last night with a view to resolve the ongoing feud over setting up sculpture of Bangabandhu at different significant points in the country.
Claiming that a congenial atmosphere has already been created to put an end to the feud, the home minister also called upon all people not to go for any subversive activities in the country over the sculpture issue.
“The Islamic scholars also assured us of not going for any movement on the issue,” Kamal said stressing the need to be more careful about the propaganda on social media.
Responding to a query about the proposals, the minister said, “The Islamic scholars proposed us to build a minar instead of sculpture, but no decision has yet been made final.”
Asaduzzaman Khan said the government cannot go beyond the constitution or hurt the people’s religious sentiment on Bangabandhu’s sculpture issue.
