Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has hiked the prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) sold by the private companies.
According to the new rate, the price of per kg LPG including VAT is Tk 104.92, up by Tk 18.85.
Last month, the price of the bottled LPG was Tk 7.08 per kg.
At the same time, the price of LP gas or auto-gas used in cars has increased to Tk 58.68 per litre, up by Tk 8.12. Last month auto-gas was selling at Tk 50.56 per litre.
Also according to the new price chart, the price of centrally controlled (reticulated) LPG for domestic use has been increased by Tk 17.91 per kg to Tk 101.68, respectively.
The new price of LPG for the current month was announced by the Chairman of BERC Md Abdul Jalil at a press conference held at the public hearing room of BERC office at Karwan Bazar in the capital on Sunday.
The chairman of the commission said according to the Saudi CP or contract price, the prices of propane and butane have increased, in September compared to August, from $660 to $800 per tonne and from $655 to $795 per tonne, respectively.
This new price has been set for October considering the mix ratio 35:65.
Commission member (gas) Muqbul-e-Ilahi said it is an environmentally friendly fuel and 18 kg of woods can be saved by using 1 kg of LPG.
“Similarly, one million cubic feet of LPG could save some 36,000 acres of forest,” he added.
He further said the price could not make this gas popular as the rate is too high.
“VAT is a big issue here in terms of setting the prices. We can bring the price down from what it is now with some minimum initiatives,” Jalil said.
He also urges the consumers to come forward to implement the price.
“The media has a big role to play in creating awareness,” he added.
