Truck owners meet home minister this evening to press for fare increase

Truck and covered-van owners are going to meet with Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan this evening to press for an increase of goods transportation fares in the aftermath of a 23-pecent hike in fuel price.

Meanwhile, bus and launch owners already sat with the government bodies concerned and secured hike in their fares by 27 percent and 35 percent respectively, in separate meetings on Sunday.

The goods-carrying-vehicle-owners talk is also expected to bring a decision on fare hikes for which they enforcing a strike since Friday.

The meeting will be held at 8:00 pm at the Secretariat, several leaders from the sector familiar with the matter confirmed reporters.

The government in a sudden move increased diesel and kerosene price by 27 percent to Tk 80 on Wednesday night, citing a volatile global market. However, it did not adjust the price for the last several years despite ups and down in the international market.
