Dhaka (Oct 25, 2020): Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzaque has expressed his annoyance at the role of a group of mill owners, wholesalers and middlemen and blamed them for hatching conspiracy to make extra profit.
Bumper paddy yield in the last Boro season but the production of aman paddy is in the face of risk due to the prolong flood in the country, the minister said.
“Confusion arises over bumper aman production this season and taking the advantage, a group of mill owners, wholesalers and middlemen are plotting to make extra profit,” Razzaque said this while addressing a programme in Madhupur upazila of Tangail today.
Claiming that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is always a pro-farmer and kind-hearted person, the agriculture minister said the government under her (PM) leadership took several agriculture friendly policies.
The government is providing fertilizer, seeds and watering facilities to the farmers as subsidy to boost production in the sector, the minister said.
The country has done a lot in producing food items and innovating and cultivating improved varieties of crops and thus the people did not face any crisis of food amid the pandemic of coronavirus, he said.
The government has already taken precautionary measures so that people in no circumstances face any food crisis in the coming days, he said.
The government is working so that people do not pass their days without food, he said adding that if necessary, the government will import rice in small scale to meet the local demand.
