Money spent on a healthy life is the best investment one can make. Often ignored, a simple health check-up can prevent many diseases that can suddenly sneak up on one and ruin life. In Bangladesh, chronic diseases like cardiac disease or diabetes can be life-consuming. However, if detected in early stages, with proper medical consultation, one can live a comparatively normal life. Regular health check-up is the best way to detect chronic diseases early, and save people from financial and physical disasters.

In 2018, Bangladesh witnessed 1.18 lakh deaths from cardiac arrests, which was 15.23 percent of the total deaths in that year, says the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The major health problems in the country are high blood pressure, sudden heart attacks, weight gain, eye problems, and others, said Dr Fahim Ahmed, a medicine and diabetes specialist at the Impulse Hospital in Dhaka.

“Many unfortunate deaths can be avoided by regular checkups as some of these can be cured or prevented from escalating further if detected in early stages,” he told the Business Insider Bangladesh.

Square Hospital, located in Dhaka’s Panthapath, Mirpur, Banani, and Uttara, offers two packages: Basic, Moderate and Premium.

Depending on the package, tests may include Glucose, Creatinine, Lipid Profile, Electrolytes, ALT (SGPT), AST (SGOT), Urine Routine Examination, CBC, HBsAg, VITAMIN D (25-HYDROXY), HbA1C, ECG, 2D - & M-Mode Echo, USG Abdomen Whole 2D, X-Chest PA View.

Check-up costs at this hospital range from Tk 4,990 to Tk 17,500 depending on the number of screenings, age and gender.

Consultation with a physician and complimentary breakfast/lunch are included in the both packages.

United Hospital Bangladesh

United Hospital Bangladesh is located in the capital’s Gulshan area. It offers Basic and Premium packages. Tests in these packages differ for males and females.

Depending on the package chosen, tests may include CBC and ESR, Liver Function Test, Renal Function Test, Fasting Blood Sugar, 2 Hours Post Prandial, Fasting Lipid Profile, Rubella IgM (for women below the age of 40), Serum Calcium, Serum Phosphate, TSH, Urine R/E, Pap Smear / Vault Smear, Blood Grouping & Rh Typing, ECG, Hepatitis B & C Screening-Ray Chest P/A View (not applicable in case of pregnancy), Stool R/E Ultra sonogram of Whole Abdomen, Mammogram or Ultra Sonogram.

Costs for these packages are between Tk 9,000 and Tk 15,000.

Diet counselling and consultation with physician are included in all these packages.

Anwer Khan Modern Hospital

This hospital in the capital’s Dhanmondi area is offering three packages: General, Executive and Comprehensive.

These packages may include vital signs and physical examination by the doctor, Fasting Glucose, Lipid profile, Electrolytes, Uric Acid, ALT(SGPT), AST(SGOT), Urine Routine Examination, Serum Creatinine, Complete Blood Count (CBC), ESR and X-Ray Chest.

With 25 percent off in all three packages, they cost from Tk 3,800 to Tk 11,800.

Breakfast and physical exam by a doctor are included in all three packages.

Evercare Hospital

Evercare Hospital provides separate four General Health Check packages for males below 40 years; below 40 years; females below 40 years; and females above 40years.

The services include: complete Hemogram, ESR, Fasting Blood Sugar, Lipid Profile, Serum Total Cholesterol, Serum Triglyceride, High Density, Lipoprotein (HDL-Cholesterol), Low-Density Lipoprotein, (LDL-Cholesterol), Atherosclerosis Index(Total Cholesterol/HDL Cholesterol), Serum Bilirubin (Total), Serum Alanine Transaminase (ALT), Serum Aspartate Transaminase (AST), Serum Alkaline Phosphatase, Serum Creatinine, Serum Uric Acid, Urine Routine and Microscopy, X-Ray Chest (P/A View), Ultrasonography Whole Abdomen, ECG.

Costs for these packages vary between Tk 13,000 and Tk 30,500.

Labaid provides one Basic health check-up package.

Depending on the package, the check-up may include Height & Weight, Body Mass Index (BMI), Physical Examination by Doctor, Complete Blood Count (CBC), Blood Grouping & Rh Factor, Blood Sugar + CUS (Fasting & 2 Hours ABF), Serum Lipid Profile (Fasting), HBsAg, TSH, Serum Uric Acid, Serum Creatinine, Blood Urea, Serum Electrolytes, Syrum Bilirubin, SGPT, Alkaline Phosphates, Urine R/M/E, ECG, X-Ray Chest P/A View, USG of the whole abdomen, Echocardiogram, etc.
