The Christians of Bangladesh are celebrating the holy Christmas day commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ with a festive mood.
The day is usually celebrated by offering special prayers, illuminating churches and installing makeshift Christmas trees at homes and places of worship and missions across the country.
Elderly people of the community make fun with children and distribute gifts among kids as part of universal Christian practice by attiring in the red and white outfit of Santa Claus.
But this year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the celebration will be in a limited scale while maintaining health rules, which includes - wearing masks and maintaining social distance everywhere.
Christmas day is a public holiday.
President M Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Opposition Leader in the Jatiya Sangsad Begum Rowshan Ershad greeted members of the Christian community on the occasion in separate messages.
They asked the members of the Christians community to celebrate the holy day while maintaining proper health guidances due to the second wave of coronavirus.
