The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has recommended the cancellation of route permits of 25 bus operators in Dhaka.
The operators have been charging additional fares repeatedly, according to a BRTA press release.
The regulatory agency has sent the recommendation to Dhaka Metro Regional Transport Committee asking it to take legal action against the companies.
The bus operators are, Basumati, Raida, Poristhan, MM Lovely, Anabil, Alif, Labbaik, Turag, Balaka, Shadhin, Projapoti, Rajanigandha, Shika, Akash, Ajmeri, Manjil, Prabhati Banasree, Asmani, Prochesta, Victor, Midline, D.link, Rajdhani, Gulistan-Gazipur and VIP Paribahan.
Earlier on November 7, the authorities agreed to increase the fares for diesel-run buses by 27 percent.
However, there were allegations of overcharging on top of the newly fixed fare.
This prompted the mobile court to conduct drives, which fined 408 buses for a total of Tk 57 lakh from October 8 to December 9.
Of these, 80 buses were CNG-powered and 1,328 diesel-powered. Another 56 buses were sent to dumping for other offences.
