Biman Bangladesh Airlines CEO Mokabbir Hossain on Monday said the airline is paying its employees by reducing costs elsewhere.

Urging every employee to give their best, he said, “When popular airlines are shutting down due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Biman Bangladesh is continuing to operate chartered planes and special cargo planes on a limited scale.”

He said this while speaking at an event organized to celebrate the national flag carrier’s 49th anniversary.

The celebration started with the hoisting of a Bangladeshi flag, as well as the flag of Biman at 10am in the morning, a press release from Biman says.

Biman Managing Director and CEO Md Mokabbir Hossain and officials from all ranks of the organisation were present during the programme that took place at the Balaka headquarters in the capital.

Biman started its 50th year by cutting a cake at the lobby of its headquarters.

Mokabbir Hossain further claimed that Biman Bangladesh didn’t fire any of its employees due to Covid-19. He thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the incentive packages.

Biman was founded on January 4, 1972, just after 19 days of the emergence of Bangladesh.

Biman Bangladesh Airlines was later turned into a public limited company of July 23, 2007.

The airline is owned by the government and is operated by a board that has 13 directors.

It currently has 19 airplanes including 4 Boeing 777-300ER, 2 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, 4 Boeing 787-8 Dreamlines, 6 Boeing 737-800 and 3 Dash 8-300.
