Padma Bridge to be opened for vehicles in June, iterates Quader

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Tuesday reiterated that the much-awaited Padma Multipurpose Bridge will be opened for vehicular movement in next June.
“Ninety-six percent of the bridge's main works have already been completed and the overall progress of the project is around 90.5 percent,” Quader, also general secretary of the ruling Awami League, told journalists after a view-exchange meeting with different bridges division officials, reports Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha.
Bridges Division secretary M Manjur Hossen was also present at the meeting.
The minister said 80 percent of construction works of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman tunnel beneath the Karnaphuli River in Chattogram also has been completed.
“We are working to complete the project by December this year,” he added.
The Minister instructed the officials concerned to further speed up the work of the Dhaka Elevated Expressway project.
Replying to the verdict of retired army Major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan murder case trial, the ruling party leader said the verdict of the trial proved that the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina believes in rule of law.
Later, Indian Ambassador to Bangladesh Vikram Kumar Doraiswami made a courtesy call on the minister at his Secretariat office in capital Dhaka.
