Dhaka School of Economics hosts webinar on corporate valuation for start-ups

The Dhaka School of Economics, a leading entrepreneurial economics educational institute affiliated with the University of Dhaka, on Wednesday hosted a webinar on Corporate Valuation Reports for Start-ups by Merchant Bankers.
Speaking at the webinar, experts from both home and abroad said that corporate valuation reports should be based on ethical and moral principles as it is a set of procedures used to estimate the economic value of an owner's interest in the business.
Dr Souvik Banerjee of the Management Development Institute in Murshidabad, India presented the keynote paper while Mahbub Hossain Majumder, CEO of AFC Capital Limited and a member of the Bangladesh Merchant Bankers Association, attended as the chief guest.
Prof Dr Muhammad Mahboob Ali, programme coordinator of the Dhaka School of Economics (DScE), chaired the webinar.
Dr Souvik Banerjee explained that corporate valuation is dealing with a series of difficulties, legislative and normative inaccuracies, as well as problems related to divergent results obtained by standard approaches.
He also appreciated the international standard of the course curricula of the Master of Entrepreneurship Economics and the post-graduate diploma programme being offered by the school.
The school is currently offering a 16-month Master of Entrepreneurship Economics degree and a nine-month post-graduate diploma programme for 2020-21 session.
Mahbub Hossain Majumder said new entrepreneurs need to get training in budgeting, planning, and estimating future growth of a company, in which the Dhaka School of Economics is playing a pivotal role.
Prof Dr Muhamad Mahboob Ali opined that financial statements should adhere to the international norms of accounting and auditing.
Among others, Assistant Professors of the school Rehana Parvin and Sara Tasneem, and the school’s Entrepreneurial Economists Club President Ummen Nahar Azmee, also spoke at the webinar.
