The drug administration has found nothing harmful in Napa syrup after testing samples of a certain production batch of the medicine that had allegedly caused the deaths of two siblings.
The paracetamol syrup produced by Beximco Pharmaceuticals was risk-free and passed standard tests, the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) announced on Monday at a press conference.
Eight bottles of the same batch were collected from drug stores and all were found to be free of any toxic elements, said Major General Mohammad Yousuf, director general of DGDA.
On March 10, a family in Brahmanbaria alleged that two siblings — Yasin Khan, 7 and Morsalin Khan 5 — died after consuming Napa syrup. The siblings were the sons of labourer Sujon Khan.
A general diary was filed over the incident and two probe committees were formed to investigate the matter.
Following the incident, DGDA on March 12, decided to collect samples of a specific batch of Napa paracetamol syrup to test its possible connection with the deaths of the two children.
