PM to inaugurate Sheikh Hasina Water Treatment Plant Wednesday in Ctg

The inauguration programme of Sheikh Hasina Water Treatment Plant phase-2 will be held on Wednesday at Radisson Blu Hotel in the port city.
The launching programme of the treatment plant will be presided over by Helaluddin Ahmed, Senior Secretary to the Local Government Division while Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the project through a video conference.
The Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister M Tajul Islam MP will be present during the occasion.
M Fazlullah, Managing Director of Chattogram Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (CWASA) confirmed Business Insider Bangladesh the news.
The inauguration runs late by a couple of months due to the lack of schedule of the Prime Minister, he added.
All the physical works of the plant have been completed and that some additional works are currently progressing, Fazlullah said, adding that after the inauguration CWASA will provide water to the entire city.
Meanwhile Sheikh Hasina Water Treatment Plant phase-2 will treat 140 million litres of water per day which will contribute to the supply of 500 million litres of water a day.
As the plant pours in 140 million of water, WASA will be able to meet the entire demand for water in the port city, officials said.
Currently CWASA is producing 360 MLD that include 140 million litres of water coming from Sheikh Hasina Water Treatment Plant phase-1, 90 million litres from Mohra Water Treatment Plant, 90 million litres from Sheikh Rasel Water Treatment Plant and 40 million litres from other deep tube-wells, the MD of the CWASA said.
Meanwhile, Chattogram WASA has signed a contract with a foreign joint venture company for the construction of another water treatment plant at Rangunia.
The plant is being implemented at a cost of Tk 44.91 billion and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has provided financial and technical assistance to the plant. The Development Project Proposal (DPP) got approval in the ECNEC meeting held on August 13 in 2013.
