Former president Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed passes away

Former President of Bangladesh Shahabuddin Ahmed died at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka on Saturday. He was 92.

Ahmed breathed his last at CMH around 10.30 am, said Md Saifur Rahman, special officer of the Supreme Court. 

He had been suffering from different age-related complications and was undergoing treatment at CMG since February. 

Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique expressed profound shock at the demise of the former Chief Justice and prayed for the eternal salvation of the departed soul and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family.

Ahmed served as the President from 1996 to 2001, and the Chief Justice from 1990 to 1995. He also served as the acting president during 1990-91 when HM Ershad resigned from the post of President.
