Dhaka (Nov 1, 2020): The government has spent Tk15,000 to Tk47,000 per person for the treatment of coronavirus at different government hospitals across the country, Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque said on Sunday.

During the pandemic, the government has officially spent an average of Tk15,000 for a normal patient and Tk47,000 for a patient at an intensive care unit (ICU), the minister said while addressing an event at his ministry in Dhaka.

Claiming that the government is providing the highest level of service to the people during the pandemic, he said coronavirus treatment has been made free by setting up a nominal fee for tests.

As a result, the common people of the country have benefited immensely, the minister said adding that whenever Awami League comes to power, it works for the betterment of citizens.

The country’s health sector is relentlessly defying criticism from vested quarters, Maleque added.

About the government’s preparedness in tackling the forthcoming second wave of the pandemic, he said the hospitals dedicated to coronavirus treatment will remain active with necessary measures.

Different ministries concerned and departments of the government have already been asked to take necessary initiatives to face the challenge of the second wave, he said at the event.
