NID cards required to buy Eid train tickets

Passengers have to show national identity cards (NID) or birth certificates to buy train tickets for Eid journeys this year.
Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan told reporters at a press conference in Dhaka on Wednesday.
He said the Bangladesh Railway will begin selling advance train tickets for Eid journeys at 8am on April 23 and will continue until 4pm on April 27.
Besides, e-ticketing will continue following the same schedule, the minister said.
This time half of the tickets will be sold online and the rest will be available at counters, said the minister.
A passenger can buy four tickets at a time and the sold ticket will not be taken back and no ticket for special trains will be sold online, Sujan said at the press conference.
A separate coach will be added with each all inter-city train to ensure smooth journey for the women and people with disability.
The authorities have also cancelled day offs of all staff of the inter-city train seven days before and after the Eid day to ensure smooth journey this year.
Ninety-two inter-city trains will operate special trips, the railway minister said.
