The vaccination campaign began at five hospitals across the capital Dhaka on Thursday, a day after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the pilot Covid-19 inoculation drive formally.

The campaign began at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) this morning and its Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Kanak Kranti Barua received the first shot. State Minister for ICT Junaid Ahmed Palak also received the jab from its vaccine centre.

Around 200 people including doctors, nurses, staffers and employees of the BSMMU are expected to be vaccinated from the centre today.

Earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced inauguration of the much-cherished inoculation drive in order to protect people from infection of the coronavirus in the country. Following the announcement, five hospitals in Dhaka went on the Covid-19 vaccination drive.

Alongside the BSMMU, around 400 people including will be give the shots at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Mugda Medical and Hospital.

Besides, 100 people at Kurmitola General Hospital and 60 people at Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital will be vaccinated.

A total of 500 people will be vaccinated at the five hospitals by today and then the programme will remain stop until February 6.

The vaccine recipients will remain under observation till February 6 and the next step of the vaccination will begin from February 7.
