The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sued five board of trustees of North South University for their alleged involvement in embezzling Tk 303 crore from a land purchase deal for the university.

Sayed Ahmed Khan, acting secretary of the ACC, disclosed this during a media briefing held at its Segunbagicha headquarters in Dhaka around 2 pm on Thursday.

The accused are Azim Uddin Ahmed, chairman of the Board of Trustees of the university, and four other trustees Benajir Ahmed, MA Kashem, Rehana Rahman and Mohammed Shajahan.

Sayed Ahmed, during the press conference, said that the five trustees purchased land for the university at a higher rate without informing the University Grants Commission (UGC).

They committed money laundering offence by embezzling Tk 303 crore in purchasing the land through FDR, the ACC official said.

The five trustees have been accused as the anti-graft body found evidence in this regard authentic during its primary investigation, he said.

Responding to a query, he said no evidence was found over involvement of the university’s vice chancellor in this connection.
