All sorts of shops and shopping malls will have to be closed by 8pm and restaurants by 10pm, said Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh.
However, drugstores can remain open by taking permission from the authority.
Taposh was briefing reporters to mark his 2nd anniversary as the Mayor of DSCC.
Besides, the DSCC mayor informed that a new commercial area will be established at Kamrangirchar. The construction of the project will begin from July next, he said.
“We want to build a central commercial area similar to Shanghai and Manhattan. Motijheel is a commercial area. But due to overcrowd and traffic congestion, it is no longer a commercial area,” said Taposh.
Many of the local and international bodies have showed their interests for investing in the new commercial area, and we are scrutinising those proposals, added the DSCC mayor.
Taposh also pointed out the revenue earning of the DSCC.
He said, “In 2019-20 fiscal years, the amount of revenue was Tk 524 crore. After taking charge, the revenue stood at more than Tk703 crore in Fy 20-21. In the current fiscal, revenue worth Tk 677.6 crore has been collected until April, while the target was Tk 800 crore.”
