The cabinet has approved the draft of the “Haat Bazaar Establishment and Management Act” that stipulates that no markets — temporary and permanent — can be set up without the approval of the government.
Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam revealed the information after attending a cabinet meeting, presided over by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office in Dhaka on Thursday.
In addition, setting up permanent markets will require the permission of the deputy commissioner.
Anyone setting up a haat or bazaar without the permission of the government will be fined Tk 5 lakh and imprisoned for one year, he added.
Also at the meeting, policy approval was given for the draft land development tax law.
